Temporary Natural Gas Flaring Near Wahpeton, ND
From June 8 through approximately June 26, WBI Energy Transmission will conduct routine maintenance on a 12-inch natural gas pipeline near the Wahpeton Town Border Station (TBS). As part of this work, residents in the area may notice a temporary flare, approximately 50 feet tall, near the facility.
WBI Energy crews will be conducting an In‑Line Inspection (ILI), a standard industry process that allows operators to inspect the interior of a pipeline using an instrumented tool that travels through the line and identifies potential issues. This inspection helps ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the pipeline.
No natural gas service interruptions are anticipated during this project.
WBI Energy has coordinated with the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, which has approved the temporary flaring activity. Local emergency management officials have also been notified.
Residents may see the flare or notice increased activity near the facility during the project window. While visible, the operation is a controlled and permitted activity supporting routine maintenance.
