Bakken East Pipeline Project

The MDU Resources Group, Inc. board of directors reached a positive Final Investment Decision on September 30, 2026, for WBI Energy Transmission, Inc. (WBI Energy) to proceed with the development of the Bakken East Pipeline Project. Based on secured customer interest, the initial design capacity of the Bakken East Pipeline will be 1.4 Bcf per day. Current project facilities to include approximately 350 miles of natural gas pipeline starting near Watford City, North Dakota to WBI Energy’s existing compressor station near Mapleton, North Dakota along with modifications at three existing WBI Energy compressor stations, the construction of four new compressor stations, and related lateral pipelines.

WBI Energy anticipates the project will be built over three construction seasons and be placed in service in two phases. The first phase is expected to begin in northwestern North Dakota and end in central North Dakota with the second phase to start in central North Dakota and end in eastern North Dakota. The project is designed to transport natural gas from the Bakken producing region in western North Dakota to serve communities and a range of industries throughout the state.
