North Bakken Expansion

Project Overview

The North Bakken Expansion Project consists of approximately 100 miles of new pipeline, compression and ancillary facilities to transport natural gas out of core Bakken production areas in western North Dakota.

The project starts near Tioga, North Dakota, and extends to a new connection point with Northern Border Pipeline in McKenzie County, North Dakota. Construction began in July 2021. The pipeline was placed in service in February 1, 2022.

June 1, 2021: FERC issues authorization

July 8, 2021: FERC Issues Notice To Proceed With Construction

Feb. 1, 2022: WBI Energy Placed Facilities In Service

Open houses with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staff were held in August 2019 in Tioga and Watford City, North Dakota.
