2025 Line Section 32
Project Overview
Basin Electric Power Cooperative plans to build the Bison Generation Station, a natural gas-fueled combined-cycle facility near Epping in Williams County, North Dakota. The project will include two units of approximately 745 megawatts (MW) each, totaling 1,490 MW—making it one of the largest generation projects in Basin Electric’s history.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2025, with commercial operation targeted for 2030. To support the plant’s fuel needs, Basin Electric has signed a Firm Transportation Agreement with WBI Energy Transmission, ensuring reliable natural gas delivery by October 1, 2028.
WBI Energy will construct a new 24-inch lateral pipeline from Line Section 32 to the Bison Generation Station, install a new delivery station at the site, and modify its existing system to accommodate increased demand. Construction of these supporting infrastructure projects is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027, with facilities placed in service by the October 2028 deadline.
