Minot Expansion
Project Overview
The Minot Expansion Project consists of a series of pipeline uprates, replacements and aboveground facility upgrades in Morton County, ND to increase firm natural gas transportation capacity along WBI Energy’s Line Section 2. The project provides an additional 7,000 dekatherms per day of firm transportation service to meet the growing natural gas needs of Montana-Dakota Utilities in central North Dakota.
The project included uprating approximately 6.9 miles of existing mainline, replacing 2.3 miles of 12‑inch pipeline with 16‑inch-diameter pipe and replacing approximately 0.5 mile of dual 12‑inch lines with a single new 12‑inch pipeline. Additional work included the installation of a transfer station and upgrades to valve settings and pigging facilities to support modern operational and safety requirements.
On February 13, 2025, WBI Energy filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for authorization under its Blanket Certificate (Docket No. CP82‑487‑000) to construct and operate the Project facilities. The Project was placed in service on November 1, 2025.
